Date-specific notice: as published in 2026, the deadline was October 31, 2026. After that date, check with Cancillería for updated instructions.
Who is affected?
In its September 15, 2026 notice, Cancillería explains that certain older permanent-resident visa holders under previous migration regimes should transfer their visa by October 31, 2026. Its description covers visas with expired or expiring labels, or issued with indefinite validity; other statutory transfer grounds may also apply.
Who is not automatically included?
This is not a universal expiration date for every modern R visa. People who recently obtained permanent residence should not assume they need to transfer solely because of the headline; consult the official notice and Article 105/106 rules.
What to prepare
The official rules describe prior visa and cédula copies, the migratory-movements certificate, documents showing your activity and a letter stating the reason for transfer, alongside general visa requirements. The transfer is pursued through Cancillería’s visa system.
After the deadline
This article preserves the published 2026 deadline as a historical reference. If you are reading after October 31, 2026, check directly with Cancillería for current treatment rather than assuming that the original deadline was extended.
