What can be extended?
For a qualifying visa-exempt foreign visitor with a valid Permiso de Ingreso y Permanencia (PIP), a Permiso Temporal de Permanencia (PTP) may extend the authorized stay. The category and initial permit matter; approval is not automatic.
How much time can I spend in Colombia?
The official PTP service sets a maximum of 180 calendar days, continuous or discontinuous, within the same calendar year. It does not reset each time you make a new border crossing. Verify your permission type and any special circumstances.
When should I apply?
Migración Colombia instructs applicants to file at least five business days before the existing PIP expires. Use the official online FUT, attach the required PDF documents and wait for instructions. An application by itself does not extend status.
2026 fee and exemptions
The general PTP fee is 150,000 COP under the 2026 tariffs. The government also lists exemptions for certain nationalities, including Ecuador and the European Union; check the current official table. Do not rely on outdated dollar-denominated fees.
After submitting
The official procedure indicates approximately three business days from payment to receiving the document by email. This is a published reference, not guaranteed approval. Check your notifications and retain the official confirmation.
