About

An unofficial English guide to Colombian immigration

migracioncolombia.co is an unofficial, English-language guide to Colombian immigration, from the Check-MIG form to permanent residency, for foreigners who need the process explained step by step. The official site is migracioncolombia.gov.co.

Unofficial, and clear about it

This site is not Migración Colombia, and it is not affiliated with the Colombian government. It is an informational guide and translation resource that explains official procedures in English. The banner at the top of the home page points to the official site, and the guide repeats the warning that matters most: the Check-MIG form is completely free at apps.migracioncolombia.gov.co. Fake websites charge $50 or more to fill it in for you. Never pay anyone to complete it.

Tools and guides

Everything on the site is built to answer one question quickly: what do I need to do, and what does it cost?

The thresholds page explains why the numbers move. Colombia's 2026 minimum wage, the SMMLV, rose 22.7% to $1,750,905 COP, and every visa's financial requirement is indexed to it, so a change in the minimum wage changes what you have to show.

  • Visa Finder Quiz: a few questions, about 30 seconds, and a visa type to look into
  • 2026 SMMLV thresholds: the financial requirements behind each visa
  • Check-MIG step-by-step, then a complete field-by-field guide
  • Six visa guides, updated for 2026
  • Frequently asked questions and essential resources

Who it is for

The typical reader has just landed, or is about to, and is staring at a Spanish-language government form. The Check-MIG walkthrough exists for that moment. The visa guides are for the next one, when a tourist stamp is no longer enough and the question becomes which visa fits your situation and what evidence it requires. The quiz is a shortcut into those guides, not a substitute for reading them.

Because the site is in English and the process is in Spanish, key terms are given in both, so what you read here matches what you will see on the official form.

Not legal advice

This is a guide, not counsel. For legal immigration advice, consult a licensed Colombian immigration attorney. Requirements change, which is why the guide is dated 2026 throughout; check the official site before you file anything. The site was made in Medellín by WebMedellin.co, and questions or corrections can be sent through the contact page.
