What it is

A cédula de extranjería is the Colombian identification document issued to eligible foreign visa holders. It is not a visa and does not separately authorize a type of work beyond your immigration status.

Who generally applies

Qualifying visa holders age seven or older with authorized stay longer than three months generally have to apply within fifteen calendar days of the relevant arrival or in-country visa issuance. Certain visitor categories are exempt under Resolution 9316/2024.

Fee and official process

The 2026 general first issue is 294,000 COP. Begin with the FUT online, book an in-person appointment and retain your digital QR confirmation after biometrics and payment. See our dedicated site for an editable checklist and specific subprocedures.
